Made for resting and recharging, connecting with others, or just having loads of fun. During the day, travelers can hang out at the property’s coffee shop, The Black Door Café, and re-charge with caffeine drinks, sandwiches, and pastries. The space’s dramatic dark walls and contrasting furniture in warm, organic hues certainly make for a great Instagram moment. Take a train or boat tour through the lush garden of this beautiful plantation that dates to pre-Revolutionary times.

It’s easy to see why this is our most popular room. With the renovations, The Mills House transitions to Curio Collection by Hilton as the portfolio’s first hotel in South Carolina. Vintage elegance shines through the sun-soaked courtyards and terraces, while grand iron archways guide you to a sleep respite among breathtaking South Carolina blooms.
Joseph Rainey – one of the most influential freedmen in Charleston and the first African American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives – operated his barber shop on the ground floor of The Mills House. One of the most visited places in Charleston, this 200-year-old city market spanning four blocks is home to gourmet eats, arts and crafts, and plenty of Southern charm. Tucked inside the walled courtyard at The Mills House is one of Charleston’s hidden gems. I wouldn’t fault the hotel for the noise issues but we had a room of four wedding attendees next to us and they were highly intoxicated and yell-talking both Thursday and Friday night. Staff was helpful in getting them to quiet down on Friday. We did have a little issue in that housekeeping didn’t refill our Kerig supplies and certain toiletries. Bed was amazingly comfortable, bath products were lovely. Indoor/outdoor guest room with private wrought iron framed porch on the second-floor pool deck.
Our last stay was at Harbourview and really wasn’t impressed. Last time we stayed at the Mills was prior to a lot of the renovations. We were pleased with the updates to the bar\restaurant, check in area.
This is a place to rest and recharge, connect with others, get some work done, or just have loads of fun. We give you everything you need for all of that…and then some. An example of fine Southern hospitality for nearly 200 years. At The Mills House, the threads of history are inter-woven with the irreverent, passionate heart of the modern South. In a thriving city that’s full of Southern charm and rich in history, our pretty pink hotel fits right in. In this beloved landmark in historic downtown Charleston, you’ll find rooms with warmth and style.
